comments from around the web

(Yeah, yeah, yeah... more politics. Promise I'll talk about something else soon, but people... this is HUGE! Lol.)

Some of the responses I've been reading around the web:

Mainline Mom:
Why I Am Not Sad This Morning
I think these words from John Piper pretty much sum up exactly why I am not devestated that Barack Obama was elected our President. (Except for the Sarah Palin bit.) I AM overjoyed that in this country we have come so far past racism that we elected a black man into the highest office in our nation. It really does say to me that our personal opportunities are boundless. Racism is a great evil, and I know it is not dead, but hope and equality are speaking louder today. But I do not agree with Obama's policies or positions, on the economy, on healthcare, on the war, and mostly on abortion. So why am I so at peace? Because GOD is sovereign in this world! He holds the globe in his hand and as long as He is my King, I have nothing to fear.

My reply: I am a firm Obama supporter, and am so happy to read this. I hope that we can all join together and acheive great things as a country. I too believe that God has us all in his hand... and that he chose Obama as our next leader for a reason. Here's to a huge step forward for civil rights and race relations. And here's to being hopeful for our country's future!

Friday Playdate:
Brave New World (Now with cupcakes!)
Yesterday I read, over and over, accounts of parents my age, or parents of kids the ages of mine, who said that they wanted to impress on their children how historic this election was. And while I agree, I couldn’t help thinking that what makes it truly remarkable is not what came before but what comes next. My children will never remember a time when a black man couldn’t be president, just like they will never remember a time before 9/11.

I was a year old when the first men walked on the moon. For my parents, this was huge, that people went to the MOON and then CAME BACK — it was like Columbus sailing off toward the horizon and proving that the earth was ROUND you all and not FLAT! But I never really understood what the big deal was, because in my lifetime, space travel was always possible, was always a reality. That’s how my kids will feel about a black president; it will be something that is just part of the landscape for them.

Making It Lovely:
Yes We Did
I’m proud of our country. I’m proud that a man I helped elect to the senate and supported in the primaries has now been elected president. I’m proud to have had a candidate that I actually feel represented my interests and the best interests of the country. I’m proud that we will have an honest, intelligent, and thoughtful leader. I’m proud to have experienced an event so monumental that both my husband and I were moved to tears. I’m proud that my child will be born in this historic time.

Thank you, America.

Our Baby Blue:
Steps Up & Back
I’m exhausted. I cried with overwhelming relief as Obama gave his acceptance speech. I don’t think I’d acknowledged how much of a weight had been on my shoulders. For the first time in my adult life, I have hope and trust my president.

I also cried as I refreshed the page over and over, watching the Proposition 8 numbers come in. It may not be over yet, but the amount of people fueled by hate and propeganda voting to pass the legislation is boggling. In California no less. We need states like that to forge ahead to create a path for states like mine to follow. We don’t even have domestic partnerships or legal protection for discrimination based on sexual orientation. California is brighter than that. Brighter than Prop 8. How is this happening?

And this... this was too cute not to post:
Singing to a Bipartisan Beat

"You Can Vote However You Like" Lyrics
Obama on the left
McCain on the right
We can talk politics all night
And you can vote however you like
You can vote however you like, yeah

Democratic left
Republican right
November 4th we decide
And you can vote however you like
You can vote however you like, yeah

(McCain supporters)
McCain's the best candidate
With Palin as his running mate
They'll fight for gun rights, pro life,
The conservative right
Our future is bright
Better economy in site
And all the world will feel our military might

(Obama supporters)
But McCain and Bush are real close right
They vote alike and keep it tight
Obama's new, he's younger too
The Middle Class he will help you
He'll bring a change, he's got the brains
McCain and Bush are just the same
You are to blame, Iraq's a shame
Four more years would be insane

Lower your Taxes - you know Obama Won't
PROTECT THE LOWER CLASS - You know McCain won't!
Have enough experience — you know that they don't
STOP GLOBAL WARMING — you know that you won't

I want Obama
FORGET OBAMA
Stick with McCain and you're going to have some drama
We need it
HE'LL BRING IT
He'll be it
YOU'LL SEE IT
We'll do it
GET TO IT
Let's move it
DO IT!

Obama on the left
McCain on the right
We can talk politics all night
And you can vote however you like
You can vote however you like, yeah

Democratic left
Republican right
November 4th we decide
And you can vote however you like, I said
You can vote however you like, yeah

I'm talking big pipe lines, and low gas prices
Below $2.00 that would be nice

But to do it right we gotta start today
Finding renewable ways that are here to stay

I want Obama
FORGET OBAMA,
Stick wit McCain you gone have some drama
MORE WAR IN IRAQ
Iran he will attack
CAN'T BRING OUR TROOPS BACK
We gotta vote Barack!

Obama on the left
McCain on the right
We can talk politics all night
And you can vote however you like, I said
You can vote however you like, yeah

Democratic left
Republican right
November 4th we decide
And you can vote however you like, I said
You can vote however you like, yeah

Love it! Okay, I think I'm done now... :-)
