another day

Didn't sleep last night, and can't concentrate today. I'm so glad it is friday. Busy but should be fun weekend ahead. First florist meeting on Sunday, so wish me lucky.

For your amusement:

Okay... off i go.

2.23.2006

a little ashamed of myself.

From my dad to the family email list:
time for some proud dad reporting. ;-)

ethan passed(with flying colors) his latest tae kwon do test last night. he is now up to black stripe on red belt.... next step is black belt. with this latest step he has risen to the same level as his original teacher. he still works with this teacher and a more advanced (5th degree black belt) teacher in a cooperative effort between two schools.

ethan has gained enough skill & respect that he has been trusted for some time now to do work with the younger students.... in a more or less informal manner. beginning in april ethan will officially "go on the payroll" of his original teacher & take over class instruction on monday nights at the ymca. this well earned level of respect, trust & acknowledgement of his accomplishments is very gratifying!

mom & i are very proud of our son!

My brother is amazing.
I'm so proud of him, but I am also so very very jealous and a little mad.

That second part makes me feel like a very small and very horrible person.

Ethan is everything I once thought I was, and now feel like I lost. He is doing everything I did, and he is doing it better. In general right now I feel very inadequete.

2.22.2006

This is funny, because that movie is too.

It's almost bedtime, but I'm not ready yet... Travis headed up at 9. So now it is quiet and dark, and I'm just sitting here, patrolling around. I'm sleepy, but not tired. I'm enjoying the quiet time so I'm not quite ready to turn in yet. So here's a little bit of random crap for your enjoyment...
(also check out Amy's blog... which I added a link to at the bottom of the list...)

Don't get excited, I only played in middle school for a little. I much prefer floor hockey.

half way there...

Okay, so the one bad thing about having monday off, is that I still have 5 days worth of work to do, but now have only 4 days to do it in. Busy. I might have to stay late again, but c'est la vie.

~*~*~*~

Lauren, my sweet sweet hoser, was the best and helped me out with my first wedding DIY project... our save the dates. I made the cards, she cut them out for me, then last night while watching some boob tube, I attached all the magnets to the cards. They are now completed, in envelopes, and stamped. I'm going to take some time to go thru them and type up the addresses using the cards themselves (on which I hand wrote all the addresses), and then they can be mailed. I'm rather proud of them, I think they turned out great.

~*~*~*~

I'm having some trouble this morning getting into the swing of things. Last night, my sleep was horrid. I must have drifted off and woken up about 30 times before I was able to really fall asleep. Needless to say, this morning I was exhausted.

Oh well, I'm here now and have to try to get this show on the road.

love mondays when i don't have to work.

I feel a little spoiled when i don't have to work on a monday. Not that I mind feeling spoiled every once in a while.

The weekend was nice. I had my first wedding related party of the season this Sunday... for Kim, the sister of one of our good friends, who is now also a friend. Her wedding is coming up in May. Very enjoyable.

My wounds are all healing nicely too... Saturday was a rough day for me. I took a long walk in the morning and ended up with a blister. I was making lunch when I got back and burned my wrist reaching into the oven. It was lovely that while it did blister, I didn't have to worry about dealing with a blister because the skin stuck to the oven rack and ripped right off. How nice for me. Then walking between the kitchen and the living room I caught my foot on a painting we had leaning against the wall and bruised my toe. Then while peeling potatoes later that evening, the peeler slipped and gave me two slices on the side of my hand.
Luckily I seem to be done with the hurting myself thing. I don't know if I would have survived more then a day of that!

Well, there was more I wanted to write about... including something I was thinking about in bed last night (involving life and adult decisions and people thinking that there is a certain age when it is appropriate to make such decisions, but really life is short and you don't know where one day will lead you from the next... and while yes, people learn eons more in their 20s then in their teens, I'm sure they will learn even more in their 30s, then in their 40s, etc... and are they just going to sit around and wait for the learning to stop before they make a decision? because if they do, well, they will quickly find that life has passed them by, and they have done nothing with it). But I'm not going to write about those right now, because today is a day for light thoughts and light activities.
I'm going to Michael's, and I'm going to pick up some wicks and make a new candle from some old ones. :-) And it is going to be great.

Update: here is my candle...

good day

It's a good day. Nice out with a sunny sky and warm weather. I'm enjoying it because it is supposed to get cold again tonight.
No boss today, so it is a good day for working at a relaxing pace and getting done with I need to get done. Plus it's friday and I have a three day weekend ahead of me.
Hopefully I can use my monday off to get started on the search for a wedding florist. I'm ready for this planning to be over. (Although, just as a side note: I have the BEST Bridesmaids EVER!)

This weekend is the first of many bridal showers I have coming up, which should be nice. Other then that it is relaxing and recharging after a good but LONG week.

And finally: Happy Birthday Espo! Hope you have a great one!!!!!!!!

Another engagement photo... for those of you that have seen Zoolander, this is "the look".

And this one is just cute... :-)

now this is real love

Me: It's weird, I've been so much more stuffed up lately.

Trav: Oh yea?

Me: Yea. I am even having trouble breathing at night.

Trav: Oh, that's probably just from when I hold the pillow over your face.

so much fun

First of all, lets get to some fun that I have neglected for a few weeks.

45113638_202b79dc11

Well, I think its fun anyway... its something light-hearted and different... and today I will use it to once again showcase my obsession with Angie:

If I looked like that without my close on... I would walk around naked a lot more! It just doesn't seem fair... ;-)

Lol, anyway! Last night was our dinner at Simon Pearce * (the restaurant that came highly recommended to us and that we were considering for our rehearsal dinner). It was AMAZING, and we are totally set that this is thee place for use to have our R.D.! I got Horseraddish Encrusted Cod, which was perfect. You could taste the horseradish, but it wasn't hot to take away from the rest of the flavor... and the crust was perfectly crisp to compliment the soft flakey fish. Travis got the Filet... which was also divine. You almost didn't have to chew it, it practically melted in your mouth! And the sauces they put on them were heavy and rich, but not at all overpowering. We were both way more then just impressed.
It is also a fun place to visit... the restaurant is upstairs, but when you first walk in you get to see the place where they do glassblowing! It's really neat to see, especially when you then go up to eat and are eating of of plates and drinking from glasses that they made. The guys are really friendly too and will answer all your questions about the process, all while they are making new pieces right before your eyes.

On our way home we stopped at Kay's to pick up our wedding bands, which came in nice and fast. Mine fit perfectly, but for some reason they screwed up Travis' part of the order and sent him a band that was 3 full sizes too big! So they had to reorder his. Good thing we decided to do this part nice and early!!

Okay, back to work!

* Ro and Pat, we highly recommend this place to you. It is only about 20 minutes from your place and it is worth every penny. Great if you are looking for an elegant restaurant for a special occation.

how can i resist this?

A Joke:
Little Melissa comes home from first grade and tells her father that they learned about the history of Valentine's Day. "Since Valentine's Day is named after a Christian saint and we're Jewish," she asks, "will God get mad at me for giving someone a valentine?

Melissa's father thinks a bit, then says "No, I don't think God would get mad. Who do you want to give a valentine to?"

"Osama Bin Laden," she says.

"Why Osama Bin Laden ?" her father asks in shock.

"Well," she says, "I thought that if a little American Jewish girl could have enough love to give Osama a valentine, he might start to think that maybe we're not all bad, and maybe start loving people a little bit. And if other kids saw what I did and sent valentines to Osama, he'd love everyone a lot. And then he'd start going all over the place to tell everyone how much he loved them and how he didn't hate anyone anymore."

Her father's heart swells and he looks at his daughter with newfound pride. "Melissa, that's the most wonderful thing I've ever heard."

"I know," Melissa says, "and once that gets him out in the open, the Marines could blow the shit out of him."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Okay, sorry, I couldn't resist.

Last night was nice and relaxing. Since we are heading out to dinner tonight, last night we just relaxed at home and ate snacky type foods for dinner (shrimp with cocktail sauce, cheese, etc.). It was nice. We watched "House" and ordered our Save the Dates and invitations.

Now I'm working and grooving to the background music here. Its very chill music...

2.14.2006

Happy Valentine's Day.

There are lots of things from the news that I have been meaning to write about:
ahem, Dick Cheney (::snicker::), Michelle Kwan (sad, but inspiring nonetheless), Britney Spears (grrr, don't even get me started), the cartoon debate (actually, trying to steer clear of this one), etc etc etc. But today is Valentine's Day, and thost things are so meloncolie, so I'm going to talk about something much better, much more special.*

Travis.

Today is out fifth Valentine's Day together, and our last as "single" people. We already treated each other to our official V-Day gifts (our wedding rings), but he has already made me feel so special today... without even spending any waking time together.
I found a heart of chocolates and a card on my bad downstairs waiting for me.
And there was a rose and a card on the drivers seat of my car.
(Sorry the pictures are blurry, I had to do a screen capture and then edit out the junk to get them... we are still waiting on the CD of pictures from our photographer...)

I am blessed to have Travis for my fiance, my partner. He is honest and faithful, loving and funny, smart and considerate. I've seen what can happen when just one of those things is missing, and it makes me realize how special what we have really is. Our relationship is a blessing to me, and keeps me sane (or at least relatively...).

He makes me feel so special and loved everyday. Today is just the icing on the cake.
Sometimes it is easy to feel like the luckiest girl.

Tomorrow we go out to dinner at Simon Pearce.
Tonight we stay home... ;-)

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!!

* Feel free to comment on the news if you would like however... I'm interested to know what you think.

2.13.2006

ps.

is it wrong that I find it really funny (now that we know everyone is okay), that dick cheney shot some guy while hunting?

lol...

just another manic monday... ahhhahhahh... i wish it were, well saturday actually.

I love the weekends. I know this is probably obvious to most people, but i feel like I have to say it, especially when the weekends are as wonderful as this past one was.

Saturday we had a meeting with the hotel people (where our wedding is being held) and we took care of all the details that we have to worry about before the wedding... besides the taste-testing which we will do in April. It was a fun meeting, and it was a relief too! Then we headed home for a bit before I went to Megan's for a free Mary Kay facial thing. It was all of her bridesmaids (except for her youngest sister whom is in Japan), and we had a great time. I tried to be good but there were two "sets" that I couldn't pass up (especially since because I bought the one I get my make up done on the day of my wedding for free... and since Megan got it too, we can both use that to get our makeup done free at each others weddings). So I guess I am now Mary Kay's bitch. On my way home it was snowing pretty fast, but the roads were still clear, though a bit wet and slick. I got home no problem, we relaxed, snuggled, it was good.

Sunday, well if you saw my post yesterday, you know what we woke up to! It was gorgeous, and i did end up venturing outside in the afternoon (when it finally stopped snowing) to help Travis dig out our cars. It was actually a lot of fun and felt good to get a bit of a workout. Otherwise we watched movies all day (all three LOTRs) and snuggled a lot.

This morning I was so glad that we had dug the cars out! It was still a pain in the butt to drive to the station, but I can't really complain because I'm just glad I didn't have to drive any further!! The roads were pretty bad. Completely covered in ice and slush. It's pretty damn chilly too.

Right now I'm pretty happy overall... I got a lot done between staying late last week, and then just working hard. I am back to a managable work load, and am hoping I get a bunch done today. I also created a day-by-day general schedule for myself. Obviously what I do day to day varies depending on what events we have, etc... but this is for the regular stuff that I do everyweek. As opposed to just haphazardly doing it as I get it (and feeling like I am all over the place), I will have one day a week that I focus on certain items. I get them done that day, and that way they don't overwhelm me. We'll see how this works out.
Plus the wedding stuff is progressing nicely, and while looking for florists is just a bit of a pain, I'm having a good time looking at invitations and will be getting my save the date stuff soon.

Okay, off to get my working going. Ciao.

2.12.2006

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!!

Wow, I knew that it was snowing a bit, but wasn't expecting it to still be snowing when I woke up this morning... especially when we already have this:

These were all taken from the front door, or through a window because I think I'm not going to be so brave as to actually venture out of the house today! Although Travis was!!

It's pretty funny because I guess the wind was blowing towards the back of our house, because you can't see anything through our kitchen window, it is completely covered in snow.

Okay, well I'm going to go drink some of my new hot chocolate (thanks mike and megan), and snuggle with my boy... enjoy your snow day!!!

2.10.2006

snacking - good vs. evil

Today I am so much more relaxed. It is definitely at least in part due to staying late last night and getting a bunch of work done. I'm sure it is also partly because it is friday. Yay! I love fridays, and always seem to be slightly more productive. Something about knowing that the busier I stay, the faster my day will go, and the sooner the weekend will arrive. Plus I am all comfortable in my jeans and casual dress.

Although maybe I was a little too relaxed earlier when I was chowing on some Cheese-Its, and ate it down almost to the bottom of the box... oh boy. It wasn't a full sized box, but one of those snack boxes. Still I probably ate about 3 servings of Cheesey goodness before I realized it. Having small healthy snacks (okay, so Cheese-Its probably don't count) is a good thing for your body and a great way to eat better... but I have a tendancy for my snacks to turn out to be neither that small, nor that healthy. Kind of defeats the purpose, huh?
I'm not always bad... I do bring in things like fruit, hummus, and carrots... but when I get a craving, like today, watch out. I'm trying to be better, and I'm determined to lose a little bit before the wedding (according to George and Barbs scale, I already have!). Wish me luck for that.

Okay, off to be productive and hurry to my weekend. Enjoy!

2.09.2006

and a little more...

I'm staying late tonight... I'm hoping that by getting extra work done today (in a more relaxed atmosphere due to the lack of people in the office) that I will have a slight relief tomorrow and next week. We'll see how this works out, but I definitely enjoy working after hours about 20x more then during regular hours.

Okay. Time to get some serious shiat done.

"Negotiating the Centraal Station in morning rush was akin to being a stoned mouse in an experiment where all the other mice have been given crack."

Got to love the doocoblurbury...

When I was younger I wanted to be Angelina Jolie when I grew up. Do you think there is still hope for that? She is the only celebrity that I could just read about every single day. Today I especially wish that I could be her, because then I wouldn't be HERE (and by here, I mean work). I don't know why I'm feeling so burnt out lately, but I am. I have so damn much to do, and so damn little drive to do it.
Today isn't anything worse then normal, but I did wake up with the same headache that I fell asleep with (and that I woke up with 3 or 4 times during the night). That doesn't make for a bright morning.

I am looking forward to this weekend though... hopefully I will be getting (its in, its in!) my bridesmaid dress for megan's wedding.

Sorry, I'm dull lately. Life at home is very good, which doesn't always make for good stories (lol, I'm willing to live with that!), and life at work is sucky, which I don't really like to talk about too much. If I were talking about wedding stuff I would tell you that I am currently pricing florists and invitations... but I tired enough of that stuff without talking about it!! Lol.

Okay, back to work.

faith

"What we all really have to have is faith-- we just choose to practice our faith in different houses of worship."

I can't remember where I found this quote, but I think it is great.

2.07.2006

feelin... odd.

Tuesday, Miyano is sick. Which means that I have to do everything for the event today alone. Bleh. It will be lonely and boring without her. C'est la vie.

I feel weird today. A little funny feeling in the pit of my stomach. I was pretty damn productive yesterday, got a lot done, especially since we were working on a mailing for most of the day. But today, I just don't know that I'll be able to get nearly so much done. I'm feeling sluggish, even though I slept like I was dead last night, and I feel off. I feel wronged. Oh well, it will just be one of those days I guess.

I will be happier when I get home. Hopefully that won't have to be later then normal.

One for the Thumb!

Monday, Monday...

Before anything else I have to say this, which really belongs in the last post, but due to blogger sucking some ass this weekend, I couldn't add it. A big ole Happy Birthday Ethan!!! goes out to my brother who turned a whopping 16 years old on Saturday. I can't believe it, I really can't. It seems like just yesterday that little knit cap on his newborn head. Anyway, that was first order of business. :-)

Second and third are Happy Birthday Grammy and Phil!!! Because Saturday was also my grandmother's birthday, and today just so happens to be Phils! Crazy huh? That ends the run of February birthdays that we had, there is one more this month, but that comes later. Oh, and I think I might have missed out on this one on Friday, so... Happy Birthday Tucchi!!!! Okay, that's all of those!

Well, moving on... as you all know, Steelers took the Superbowl yesterday. While it wasn't a great solid game like the AFC championship, the end result was right. It's awesome that they got their first SB win since Travis was alive, and I'm glad they did it while the Bus was still with them. He deserved the win, and that is the best way for him to go out. Not only with the SuperBowl ring, but by finishing off with the biggest win in the town where it all started for him. I wish they had done it a little more soundly... you know, passing the 50 yard line sometime before the second quarter, and without the interceptions... but their were some great moments: Parker's record breaking run for one, and the perfectly done play with Antwaan Randle El's TD pass to Ward. Those made it good.

Another fun note from the weekend... Travis and I were able to order our wedding bands! So that is exciting. :-) We went simple, 14k white gold. His is 5mm, mine is 3mm. So our bands will match, which we like... and they are good bands, but didn't break our bank. Mine was less expensive then we thought it would be... probably thanks to my baby sized fingers (I needed a size 3 and a half!!).

Okay, well, time to kick some work ass... hopefully be so productive today and tear through everything so that I don't have to put in that overtime. We'll see, but wish me luck!!

2.04.2006

everything is so much better on the weekends...

Saturday rolls around and I don't even think or care about the rest of the week, past or to come. The weekend just makes everything better.

Lately work has felt like a bit downward spiral. The boss just keeps adding more things to my list of daily/weekly (basically the regular rotation of) responcibilities... and I am feeling completely overwhelmed. He's a great guy, but he's one of those guys that has to have his hand in everything, and since I work directly for him, that means that I get to have my hand in everything too. I know that it is a sign of his confidence in me, but right now its just driving me crazy. ::le sigh::

Honestly, life is pretty good. I'm so happy (period). With Travis, our relationship is better then ever... and the wedding planning is going very well. I think we're actually ahead of the game on some things! . Yay! Plus we have awesome friends (dinner thursday night was a lot of fun! and can't wait for the super bowl party!), and so much exciting stuff this year to look forward to. It's just work that's bringing me down a little.

Hopefully a few nights of (unfortunately unpaid) overtime this coming week will catch me up so that I don't feel so insanely... well its like i'm running a race and everyone else got a 20 second head start.

But that is neither here nor there. Because it is the weekend! And as a rule, I don't worry about work on the weekends... its a sanity saver.

This weekend should be particularly nice... especially after the insanely busy weekend we had last week (which was also good, but very tiring). This weekend the only actual set plan we have is for Sunday when we are heading over to George's to watch the big game (LET'S GO STEELERS!) with him, Barb, Pat, a! nd Rochelle ... and who knows who else. It should be A LOT of fun. Other then that it will be tons of relaxing, and sometime today (after Trav gets back from the grocery store) we'll head out to go shopping for our Valentine's gifts to each other, our wedding bands. :-) I'm very excited for that, for obvious reasons.

Okay, well time to go shower my dirties away... but before I forget, a quick shout out to Ollie and Amy. I saw the comment you guys left and wanted to say Hi!! It's been too long and I hope you are all doing well. I'll drop an email soon.

Okay, time to get my day going!

almost there...

Yesterday's post was brought to you by my complete inability to focus on my blog for more then one sentence at a time. I was REALLY busy, but wanted to say something. So I would say one piece of something, then go do some work and come back to say another piece of something. That clearly does not work for me, as I ended up with about 6 pieces of blah.
Lucky for you though, last night I took some nasty smelling vitamin things that Travis got me which are supposed to make you "relaxed and sleepy". Of course, all they really did was make me physically unable to force my eyes to open for more then 10 seconds, but actual sleep? Nope. So I was able to use that quality time to think of a few things about which I wanted to blog.

First off,
Happy Birthday Mike!!!
He is the first of my multiple February birthdays.

I also wanted to tell you about the wonderful way in which Travis and I spent our evening last night. Cooking and cleaning. I can feel your excitement mounting!
No, it really was a good thing. Brian and his fiance, Stacey, are coming for dinner this evening. Their house is gorgeous! So, obviously we didn't want them walking into the disaster area that was our house last night. Opps. As I said, it was a busy January. Anyway, all in all our house now looks pretty damn good! Of course in my dreams when we were done cleaning we magically had non-pink walls and new carpet, but other then that it looked almost as good as I had hoped. No more piles of papers all over, my clothes are now carefully contained in my closet and drawers, the bathroom is spotless, and we have a dining room table again. Woo-hoo. Of course, here's hoping they don't look under the beds or in any closets... ;-) Lol.

So today has been pretty uneventful. I've been keeping very busy all week, and today is no exception. Of course there is my big ole flub in that I forgot about an event that I have to stay a little late for this evening... but luckily I will still get home at the same time, if not right before Bri and Stace get there. Oh boy.

Okay, busy day... off I go.

Time flies when you're ... um... busy as sh*t

February already. January flew by... probably because it was one damn busy month. Work was busy, weekends were busy... especially in the last two weeks. But now it is a new month, and I have a fresh calander page on my wall, that is as of yet, remarkably unblemished. :-) All the birthdays this month (five of them) fall within the first six days... and in a little over two weeks i have a three day weekend to look forward to. There is Valentine's Day, and we have a few appt. for wedding stuff, but otherwise things are so far looking pretty relaxed. We'll see how long that lasts!!
